What is the difference between eyebrow lift surgery and forehead lift surgery, and what is each one used for?

Subjects:

Eyebrow lift surgery and forehead lift surgery are two completely different procedures, yet unfortunately, many beauty seekers confuse them with one another. Since the forehead and eyebrows are located close together, some patients, without having enough information, choose the wrong method. A few months after the surgery when the swelling subsides they suddenly realize that their main concern has not been resolved.
For example, imagine a man who visits the clinic to treat deep forehead wrinkles, as shown in the picture below. If he mistakenly undergoes an endoscopic eyebrow lift, a few months later, after the swelling in the forehead area goes down, he will discover that the deep wrinkles still remain. This not only causes dissatisfaction, but it also means the expenses paid were wasted.
Therefore, in this article, I will explain the difference between these two surgeries in simple terms so that you can make an informed decision to resolve your specific concern.

What is eyebrow lift surgery?

When our goal in surgery is to change the shape or position of the eyebrows, the procedure performed is called an eyebrow lift.
In the image below, you can see a person who has come in with a complaint of eyebrow drooping and is requesting an eyebrow lift. With closer observation, you can see that the distance between the eyebrow and the eye is less than normal. On the other hand, when we examine the forehead, we do not see any deep lines that require correction. This person is a good candidate for eyebrow lift surgery.

Important point:

It should be noted that many women, in order to enhance the attractiveness of their face, prefer higher positioned eyebrows and use makeup or eyebrow tattoos to make their eyebrows appear lifted. They do this by removing their natural eyebrow hair and applying makeup or performing a tattoo higher than their actual eyebrow position. For such candidates, we can use certain eyebrow lift surgical methods to achieve the desired result in a more natural way, which I explain in other sections of this website.
Suitable candidates for eyebrow lift surgery fall into one of the following two categories:
1. A person who does not have eyebrow drooping (for example, a young woman) but wants to change the shape of her eyebrows or have higher positioned eyebrows.
2. A person who, due to genetics or ageing, has a combination of the following three features:
● Drooping eyebrows
● A short distance between the eyebrow and the eye
● No deep wrinkles in the forehead

What is forehead lift surgery?

When our goal in surgery is to eliminate wrinkles and signs of ageing in the forehead, the procedure performed is called a forehead lift.
Many men who have thick skin along with deep central forehead lines are good candidates for this surgery.
As shown in the image below, this patient requested a forehead lift to remove the deep lines in the middle of the forehead. Such deep wrinkles may appear due to genetic factors even in a 25 year old (especially men), and they can have an unpleasant effect on a person’s mood or self image.

Forehead lift surgery is suitable for individuals who meet the following conditions:

They have deep or numerous forehead wrinkles.
● Non surgical methods have not been effective for them, or they have no interest in non surgical options.

Now that you understand the difference between these two surgeries, it is interesting to know that many patients simultaneously have signs of eyebrow drooping and deep forehead wrinkles. To correct both issues, methods must be used that can address both concerns at the same time.

In summary, if you want to know which method is more suitable for you, use the following three principles:

If you have drooping eyebrows but your forehead is relatively smooth and does not have deep wrinkles, an eyebrow lift surgery is the better option.
● If your forehead lines are deep and bothersome and you want a smoother forehead, a forehead lift surgery is more suitable for you.
● In cases where you have both significant forehead wrinkles and eyebrow drooping at the same time, a combination of both forehead lift and eyebrow lift surgeries is recommended for the best result.

Do forehead lift and eyebrow lift surgeries require hospitalization and general anaesthesia?

These surgeries are all performed on an outpatient basis, and patients are discharged and return home the same day. Due to the wide variety of techniques used for forehead lift and eyebrow lift surgeries, they can be performed either under general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia. You can discuss your preference regarding either method with me before the surgery.
